The 10 Good & Gather Groceries I Can’t Stop Buying at Target

I’m on the record as being a fan of Target’s Good & Gather line. When the store’s private-label brand launched in the summer of 2019, I set out on assignment for Kitchn to buy up a bunch of options and give them a try … and I’ve been shopping the line ever since. There were a lot of offerings in the line back then and now there are even more, with more than 2,000 SKUs including ground beef, frozen berry blends, spices, sparkling water, lunch meat, etc!

My list of reasons for loving the line is almost as long the list of offerings. The prices are pretty comparable to those at the mainstream grocery stores in my area, and there are always sales or special promotions going on (see above!). The quality is top-notch, with some organic options. There are lots of creative Trader Joe’s-esque items (that’s another post that I’ll write soon!). There’s a money-back guarantee. And I regularly like to check out the new offerings from Hearth and Hand and in the Bullseye’s Playground , so if I can get my groceries in the same trip, well, that’s just extra convenient.

At any given time, my pantry/fridge/freezer looks like it’s a set for a Good & Gather commercial. (Attention, Target Execs: My kitchen is available to rent for your next ad photoshoot!) I like to try new-to-me groceries now and then, but these are the items I buy on the regular.

1. Everything Seasoned Cashews

I’ve waxed poetic about these cashews a lot. (I even insisted they get included in our grocery list of Kitchn Essentials ). They’re made with sesame seeds, garlic, onion, salt, and poppy seeds and they really do taste just like an everything bagel — but in cashew form. During my most recent trip, they were on sale for $5.50 per bag.

Buy : Everything Seasoned Cashews , $5.99 for 7.50 ounces

2. Tomato, Garlic and Calabrian Chile Spread

Giada got me interested in Calabrian chilies, and then a friend gave me one of these jars. Good gosh, is it good! It’s imported from Italy, made in small batches, and features Calabrian chilies and hand-chopped basil. I like to use it on sandwiches (like simple turkey ones!) and burgers. I’ve also mixed it up with some mayo to make a spicy aioli for fries, but I haven’t yet tried in on a pizza the way Target suggests.

Buy : Tomato, Garlic and Calabrian Chile Spread , $3.99 for 6.35 ounces

3. Shredded Chicken

We love a rotisserie chicken in this house, but we almost exclusively buy them to shred up. This Target find does that step for us. It’s a tray of shredded white meat chicken that’s already cooked and seasoned with salt and pepper. We keep it on hand for easy additions to salads, sheet pan nachos , pasta dinners, wraps, sandwiches, and more. It was also on sale during my last visit, temporarily down to $4.99.

Buy : Shredded Chicken , $6.99 for 12 ounces

4. Southwest Chopped Salad Kit

If I learned anything during Kitchn’s massive bagged salad taste test , it’s that the Southwestern-style salad kit is always a good idea. And Target’s option is further proof of that. It’s oh-so-crunchy and the dressing isn’t too sweet (a problem with lots of bagged salads). I like to add an avocado — and maybe some of that shredded chicken from above! — for a quick weekday lunch for myself and my husband.

Buy : Southwest Chopped Salad Kit , $3.99 for 12.6 ounces

5. Frozen Crushed Garlic Cubes

Lots of Kitchn staffers are obsessed with these frozen garlic cubes from Dorot , but I actually have a hard time finding them at the stores near me. These have the same exact ingredients and work the same way (they’re also made in Israel and I’d guess they’re from the same company, only made for Target!). One cube is equal to one glove of garlic. They’re great for quick weeknight dinners when I don’t feel like getting out the cutting board or smelling up my fingers! I just got these on sale for $2.69.

Buy : Frozen Crushed Garlic Cubes , $2.99

6. Wood-Fired Spinach and Goat Cheese Frozen Pizza

I believe that every freezer should have a frozen pizza or three in it at all times. Which means, of course, that I’ve tried a LOT of frozen pizzas. I like that this one is just a bit fancier than your standard option. The crust has the perfect amount of crunch, and the goat cheese adds a nice touch.

Buy : Wood-Fired Spinach and Goat Cheese Frozen Pizza , $5.99

7. Freeze Dried Salted Edamame

Look, these are no potato chips — but they do satisfy my craving for a handful of something crispy and salty! The edamame are shelled and are crunchy and ridiculously snackable. I like to add them to salads or use some to DIY a savory trail mix with nuts and dried cranberries, too.

Buy : Freeze Dried Salted Edamame , $3.49 for 3.25 ounces

8. Frozen Broccoli and Cheese Veggie Tots

If you have an air fryer, make these in there. If not, just bake them in your oven for a few extra minutes than the package says. Also, either sprinkle them with some shredded cheddar cheese or dunk them in ranch dressing. These were just on sale for $2.69.

Buy : Frozen Broccoli and Cheese Veggie Tots , $3.19

9. Crispy Chicken Breast Strips

More chicken! (We eat a lot of chicken in this house.) I bought these hoping they’d compare to the Red Bag Chicken from Aldi that I love. Honestly, there’s room for both in my life (I’ll write a full comparison soon!). There are two things you need to know: These often sell out (so buy them when you see them), and they’re best in the air fryer.

Buy : Crispy Chicken Breast Strips , $6.69

10. Cheddar Cheese Curds

My only complaint about Target, in general? It doesn’t have a cheese counter! It does make up for that oversight by having a surprisingly decent cheese selection. These cheese curds rise to the top: They’re perfectly squeaky, the way good curds should be.

Buy : Cheddar Cheese Curds , $2.99 for 5 ounces

I could keep going but I’ll stop for now and let you guys share. Are there any Good & Gather groceries that regularly make your shopping list? Tell us in the comments below.
