The Best New Groceries to Hit Supermarket Shelves This January

It’s finally 2021 — and what a wait it has been. You know what else has been patiently waiting for its day in the sun? A new class of grocery products that just hit shelves. Here are the latest groceries ready to be tossed into your (digital or physical) grocery cart ASAP.
Whether you’re looking to incorporate more healthful, nutrient-packed foods into your diet or plan on crafting an indulgent spread for the NFL playoff-season, this month’s newcomers have you covered in all departments. These are the best new groceries I’ve tried this month, including a better-for-you pancake mix and a remixed version of a widely beloved snack.
1. International Delight Fruity Pebbles Coffee Creamer and Cocoa Pebbles Coffee Creamer
These limited-time coffee creamers (made to celebrate the 50th birthday of the corresponding iconic Post cereals) taste identical to the milk left over after eating a bowl of Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles. I’m kind of obsessed. I like my coffee sweet, so these creamers definitely check off that box. Plus, they’re so nostalgic and fun.

2. Flourish Protein Pancake and Waffle Mix
I love a good pancake mix because it makes it that much easier and faster to whip up a short stack. This bag from Canadian company Flourish is delicious and nutritious, made with non-GMO whole-wheat flour, no added sugar, and 23 grams of protein per serving. All you need to add is water or milk; I used unsweetened almond milk, and my pancakes came out fluffy on the inside with a slight crust on the outside. This mix is available in three flavors — Vanilla, Chocolate, and Buttermilk — and works with waffle makers too.

3. Special K Blueberry
Special K Red Berries is a longtime favorite cereal of mine, so I was excited to try this new Special K Blueberry version. It’s made with those signature crunchy wheat and rice flakes, plus freeze-dried blueberries. I’ll definitely be reaching for this box on busy WFH mornings when I don’t have time to make a hot breakfast.

4. Pop Bitties Air-Popped Ancient Grain Chips
Made with whole-grain sorghum, brown rice, quinoa, and chia seeds, this plant-based snack is just the thing if you’re looking to do more mindful munching. It actually tastes good, too. Available in four flavors (Pink Himalayan Salt, Maple & Sea Salt, Hickory BBQ, and, my favorite, Vegan Sour Cream & Onion), these chips were developed by Mark Andrus (the founder and product developer of Stacy’s Pita Chips!).

5. Daily Harvest Mylk
Daily Harvest (the direct-to-consumer smoothie company) recently made its first foray into the alternative milk space. These frozen “mylk” triangles are made with just three ingredients — ground almonds, Himalayan sea salt, and vanilla bean — and come packaged in a convenient ice cube-like tray. All you need to do to make almond milk is blend a wedge or two with water.

6. Snickers Peanut Brownie
These bite-sized squares are what you’d get if a Snickers bar married a fudgy peanut brownie. They lean a little sweet, but each bar is pre-divided into two squares so you can share (or save the other half for later). The product press release notes that this new product is here to stay and will be a permanent part of the Snickers lineup.

7. Doritos 3D Crunch
I don’t remember eating Doritos 3D when they were available in the ’90s, but wow, does this remixed version pack a punch. I noticed that both flavors (Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch) have a serious kick to them, but my less spice-sensitive husband didn’t detect an uncomfortable amount. Like classic Doritos, whatever magic they sprinkle in this seasoning blend keeps you coming back for more.
