If you read this story on how many times I’ve moved in the last decade (yeah, 25), you might assume I like to travel light. And you’d be right. In every move, there are only a couple of things that I make sure to re-buy or bring with me. My IKEA MIXTUR set is one of those “must-haves.”

I love so many things about these small glass wonders. For starters, they work equally well for baking, serving, or holding snacks. With them, you can make a regular recipe of something like brownies or cookie bars that calls for a nine-inch square pan and, instead, divide the batter into the three small and one large dishes. This is especially nice if you’re an edge lover when it comes to baked goods.

They’re also small-space-friendly. If you have only a toaster oven to bake in, the MIXTUR set allows you to make a whole recipe and cook it in batches, so you don’t have to do any recipe dividing math. Even the large pan fits well in my very tiny toaster oven. Because of this, I can bake everything from sheet cake to a Dutch baby all in an oven that only uses a small rectangle of counter space. Obviously, you can use them in a regular oven, too.

Sometimes I like to use the larger pan as my baking dish and the three smaller ones for various toppings. The little ones are also great for snacks, condiments, garnishes, and as prep dishes to keep ingredients separate. Plus, the whole set is simplistic and classic and look good enough to go straight from the oven to the table. (With caution and a trivet !)

Here’s another bonus: They’re a super solution for families where everyone has specific tastes. Baked pastas, casseroles, etc. can all be customized and popped into the oven at the same time, so everyone is basically eating the same thing, but with personal twists.

While most baking dishes only do one thing, the versatility of the IKEA MIXTUR set really is magical. And it’s only $10, which makes it even better.
