The Super-Surprising Way to Get Stains Out of Your Carpet

I’m always up for trying wild and wacky cleaning methods. But I must admit I was skeptical upon hearing that WD-40 could be used to lift stains off carpet. So, of course, I had to give it a try. I used balsamic vinegar for the stain … because I figure I can’t be the only one who’s ever accidentally let a caprese skewer bounce off her plate while walking around a party!
According to the company’s site, stain removal can be done in three easy steps.

- Step 3 : Take a dry rag or towel, clean up the damp spot on the carpet thoroughly, and you’re good to go!
I went all out and tipped the bottle of balsamic over, causing a pretty saturated dime-sized stain. Here’s what it looked like to start.
I saturated the stain with WD-40, and let it soak up until I couldn’t see any more foam.
Next, I blotted the area a few times and started scrubbing it with a clean towel. This is what the stain looked like after the first cleaning with WD-40.
I sprayed two more times until the color was completely lifted, and I have to admit, I was impressed with the results.
The WD-40 was able to lift and completely remove the balsamic vinegar stain from the carpet. The cleaning process was simple, and the smell went away within a few minutes. I’m excited to add one more unexpected cleaning agent to my caddy — and my purse! You know, just in case I have another run-in with a slippery caprese skewer at a party in the future!
