Part of our job at Kitchn is to scour the web for products that shoppers are raving about — and then test whether or not they live up to the hype. A few months ago, we wrote about an Amazon bestselling kitchen accessory that creates storage space where there was none: the Simple Houseware Under Shelf Basket . Rather than using vertical space from the counter up, this clever gadget hangs under your kitchen shelf, creating a storage solution from the top down — no tools or assembly required. On the advice of nearly 6,000 reviewers who deemed them five-star worthy, I ordered a pack of two. Spoiler alert: They’re as awesome as I’d hoped.

I like to give myself as much room as possible to (happily) make a mess when I’m cooking, and countertop must-haves like my beloved Breville toaster oven , an adorable fruit basket , and a stove-side utensil container take up enough real estate as it is. I’m always looking for ways to declutter, so the Simple Houseware baskets piqued my interest. Getting two extra kitchen shelves without the hefty undertaking of drilling into my concrete wall? Yes, please!

Well, after using them for several months, I’m happy to report that the aptly named Simple Houseware baskets are the opposite of complicated. I removed them from the packaging, slid them onto the bottom of a kitchen shelf, and I instantly had two new shelves that I couldn’t wait to fill. While you can use them for storing everything from aluminum foil and parchment paper to spices and pantry staples, I decided to use one for potholders (which I can never find when I need them) and paper towels. I quickly saw that the other was the perfect spot to store all of those oddly sized Ninja attachments . Having all of these things out of the way means that I have room to spread out when I cook and still have easy access to everything I need. I opted for white, but you can also go for a chic bronze if that’s more your style.

And while they’re technically meant for the kitchen, these babies are useful all over the house. Need a place to store fabric softener and orphaned socks in the laundry room? How about office supplies in your work-from-home space or odds and ends in the garage? As long as there’s a shelf where you can hang these baskets, you really can increase your storage space in seconds! And at just $15 for a pack of two, it sure beats getting out the drill.
