When I first invested in a set of reusable food storage bags made from food-grade silicone two years ago, I was immediately smitten. The only issue: you need to dry them carefully — and while that’s a small and understandable step toward a greener kitchen, I’m always on the hunt for ways to make the drying process easier. So when I stumbled across an easy hack on Reddit, I was instantly intrigued.
In r/lifehacks, Redditor u/alaorath showcased how they help a FoodSaver bag dry from the inside out. All you have to do is grab a pair of spring-loaded salad tongs, stick them inside the bag, and let the water drip out. Brilliant!
Because Reddit is always helpful, other users quickly weighed in. One person pointed out that it’s better to put the drying bag in a dish rack to avoid sink bacteria , while others swear by other tools, such as whisks, and chopsticks. “Baby bottle drying racks work great too,” u/cakeresurfacer noted .
And while some bags are easy to flip inside out to dry, u/alaorath pointed out a unique design feature in the bags that they use that makes that tricky. “These Food Saver bags have a narrower opening. I’ve tried that in the past, and the bag eventually rips at the corners – defeating the purpose of reuse,” they noted . Whatever method works is what matters — and keeps that much more plastic away from landfills. Both the earth and your wallet will thank you in the long run.
