Three Clever Ways I Use Lazy Susans to Keep My Apartment Organized

I’ve always thought lazy Susans belonged solely on kitchen tables. Growing up, I’d mostly see them in dining rooms holding salt and pepper shakers and condiments. It seemed like a turntable would be bulky and in the way anywhere else in the house, so when it came time to organize my own home, I hesitated to reach for lazy Susans. My place is small, so I was convinced that rotating trays would be the opposite of what I needed to make the most of the little storage space I have. However, upon actually giving them a (literal) whirl in different areas of my apartment, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they keep my stuff organized and easy to find.

Here are three lazy Susans I tested myself, and how I’m using each one.

In My Pantry: YouCopia Crazy Susan Kitchen Cabinet Turntable

In my pantry, I’m using the YouCopia Crazy Susan Kitchen Cabinet Turntable with clear plastic bins on top. The bins are optional — up to three can fit on the tray. However, if I only wanted to use one, two, or none at all, I have that choice. I’m a snacker who often enjoys individually wrapped treats, like granola bars and mini cakes, that I can take on the go. Typically, I prefer to get rid of the snack boxes to maximize my cabinet space. When I added the YouCopia Crazy Susan to my cupboard, I realized it was large enough to contain a ton of food items that were consuming unnecessary space. The first time I used it, I was able to fit in 30 packaged snacks and still had room left for other items I usually would have to play pantry Tetris with.

In My Refrigerator: YouCopia FridgeView Fridge Turntable, 11″ with Mat

The refrigerator is the last place I imagined placing a rotating tray, but I took a chance and added the YouCopia Fridge Turntable that comes with a non-slip mat. It measures 11″ in diameter and takes up about half the shelf. This leaves plenty of room for my water jug, milk, and other large containers. Previously, I would keep my small drinks, coffee creamer, and cold condiments in the door of the refrigerator, which meant items would jostle around every time the door opened. I moved my condiments over to the tray, and was surprised to see that I could fit 10-16 bottles and slim cartons on it at a time. Best of all, the tray doesn’t obstruct other items I frequently grab. I also checked to see if the cool dampness of the fridge would effect the spin of the fridge turntable. I’m happy to report that the rotation remained smooth, which is great for preventing spills.

Under My Sinks: YouCopia SinkSuite Under Sink Organizer

I keep a lot of cleaning supplies under my kitchen sink (more than I’d like to admit), so adding the turntable was an opportunity to get rid of products I wasn’t using while organizing the others. It’s easy to lose products in the dark vortex of the sink cabinet, but the YouCopia SinkSuite easily helps me access the products I need by keeping them front and center. Though the turntable comes with dividers, I’m using the SinkSuite without them to maximize space for my large spray cleaners. This tray is more heavy-duty than the other two lazy Susans I tried, which is perfect for storing bulkier supplies. It sits a little higher than the others as well, but not high enough for products to run into my garbage disposal with each turn.

My perspective on lazy Susans has done a complete 180. I’ve been using them for weeks now, and they’re convenient in every way. I love how much they can hold, which is key for small space dwellers like me. I’m so pleased with the results that I’ll be looking for other areas in my place that I can organize with one quick spin.
