Heath’s Shades of Winter
Winter Seasonal, a new palette of glazes from Heath Ceramics, features cooler options for the season.
Heath Ceramics has history. The company was created in Sausalito, Calif., in 1948, by Edith Heath, a potter and artist, and her husband, Brian Heath. It has long been known for its simple, utilitarian shapes and often neutral glazes; the pieces fit seamlessly in the midcentury aesthetic. The company suffered some hard times, but in 2003 it was bought by Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey, a husband and wife team. They opened a studio and store in Los Angeles in 2008 and added linens, pillows and other accessories to the inventory. This fall the company has introduced its plates, bowls, vases and mugs in a new set of glazes called Winter Seasonal, in a palette that runs from dark purple and cranberry red to paler azure and lavender.
