The first time I spent all day standing in a kitchen, testing equipment, I quickly realized two things: There’s a certain satisfaction in doing something over and over again (like frying dozens of eggs in a row) and I did not have the right footwear. My back hurt. My feet hurt. Heck, my whole body hurt. I needed new shoes — and fast.

I decided to get myself new kitchen shoes, which meant going down a rabbit hole of clog research. Where did I land? On Calzuro clogs.

These slip-on shoes, made in Italy and created for surgeons , are mega comfortable. They have a chunky rubber heel and a texturized footbed that means nothing moves or slides around (the company also says these are “massaging bumps to circulate blood flow”). They’re supportive and both my back and feet feel super happy after a day standing in them and moving about. And you can buy them with or without ventilation holes if you do or don’t have feet that tend to overheat.

My shoes (and my dog!).

Another thing I love about them is how easy they are to clean. According to the Calzuro site , they’re “autoclavable” safe, which I cannot confirm because I do not own an autoclave . However, you can also bleach them and they’re machine-washable and (wait for it!) dishwasher-safe. Being able to easily disinfect them is super handy when it comes to accidental kitchen messes.

One important fact I have yet to mention is that Calzuros are actually cute-looking. They’re pretty sleek and I have absolutely worn them with regular ol’ outfits before. Like, outside of the kitchen! And while I have the pink tie-dye colorway, they’re available in so many fun colors, like vibrant purple and shimmery, metallic blue .

Do you have comfortable shoes you like to wear while cooking? Tell us about them in the comments!
