Yes, we have some opinions on coffee.
Below, we asked Kitchn editors to weigh in on their current favorite coffee brands. From classic whole bean coffee blends to a bold coffee concentrate we absolutely swear by, here are 10 editor-approved coffee picks that are keeping us buzzing this fall.
"Stumptown Hair Bender is one of my go-to coffees. I love it for my French press or automatic drip, but particularly adore it for espresso. In fact, it's the only espresso I've used for years. And my burr grinder is specifically calibrated to work with Hair Bender, so I can't/won't change things up!" — Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm , Tools Editor
"So, technically, you're supposed to make a coffee drink by mixing Jot with water or any milk of your choosing. While those ways are perfectly good, I will admit that I also use Jot as a sort of espresso-like shot in my iced coffee. Just a dash and my iced coffee tastes much more robust." — Lisa Freedman , Lifestyle Director
"While Sunny Spot is a strong, dark roast coffee, it’s also very mellow. It wasn’t bitter or acidic, like a lot of the brands I had experimented with pre-Grounds & Hounds, and it was really easy on the stomach in the early a.m. The blend has notes of dark chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker, hazelnut, and vanilla bean, making it perfect for sipping. In fact, I found the drink so enjoyable that I no longer missed my venti cold brew and didn’t feel like I had to rush back to the coffee shops when they reopened." – Mark Marino, Commerce Director
"I love coffee, but I personally find a lot of third wave coffee brands too acidic, bitter, burnt, or often just odd tasting. I want something that is, as my dad refers to it, “coffee-flavored coffee” — but with a little nuance. BLK & Bold does just that, providing a smooth but full-bodied flavor from 100 percent arabica beans. It is micro-roasted with subtle notes of what they call lemon and bell pepper, but I prefer to describe it as clean and bright. It grinds up easily and works well in my single-serving drip coffee maker." – AnnMarie Mattila, Apartment Therapy Contributor
"One of La Colombe's best-selling blends, Corsica, is a dark roast with notes of red wine, lush red cherries, and chocolate. I love to grind my own beans whenever time allows, and this is my go-to blend once the temperatures drop. It's rich and earthy but also incredibly smooth — perfect for chilly fall mornings." — Danielle St. Pierre, Kitchn Sr. Commerce Editor
"I really like the Copper Cow pour over coffee kits. I took them to my Airbnb vacation house this past summer, and it was so wonderful to have great coffee that was hassle-free to make and transport (no machine required!). You can get them black or as lattes." — Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm, Tools Editor
"These pods are 100% compostable and compatible with lots of Nespresso machines, including my Pixie. I love them all, but I think the Cremoso is my favorite — it's dark, rich, and smooth. Between this, and my Jot recommendation, you might have noticed a pattern: I clearly like a strong coffee drink!" — Lisa Freedman , Lifestyle Director
"I usually drink coffee with milk or creamer, but I'm actually obsessed with drinking this Blue Bottle blend black or Americano-style because it has a naturally sweet aftertaste. This coffee also smells amazing!" – Emily Lew, Commerce Coordinator
"A little birdie recently told me about Fire Department Coffee , a veteran-owned coffee brand run by firefighters, and I've been slowly working my way through their various blends. This Skull Crushing Espresso is made from a Honduran blend and packs a serious punch for my morning espresso shot (or two!)." — Danielle St. Pierre , Kitchn Sr. Commerce Editor
"My husband and I love trying out new beans, and Coffee Manufactory is some of the best I've come across. I particularly love their espresso blend, which combines roasts from three different origins (El Salvador, Guatemala, and Ethiopia) for a brew that is rich and dynamic. Paired with our Breville machine , it's a combination that simply can't be beaten. Oh, and I love the whole ethos behind the brand — they put a big emphasis on ethical farming and producer empowerment, so it's a buy that I feel good about, too." — Alyssa Longobucco, Apartment Therapy Contributor
