Whether you’re just getting started with the Instant Pot, or you’ve been on board with the device for a while, you probably know that this multi-cooker is a modern kitchen marvel. No matter what you’re cooking in your Instant Pot — whether it’s a quicker classic pot roast , best-ever spaghetti in meat sauce , creamy mushroom pasta , yogurt , fudgy brownies , or chocolate cheesecake — the machine can churn out tasty dishes in a snap.

1. The Instant Pot has two built-in lid-holders.

The two handles on the sides of the Instant Pot are great for moving the machine around the kitchen or hauling it to potlucks . But they have an extra function: They’re also designed to perfectly hold the pressure cooker’s lid . This way, once you open the machine, you don’t have to worry about finding a place to put the lid down — just pop it into one of the handle holders and you’ll free up both hands for stirring and serving.

2. You can hang your Instant Pot spoon right on the edge of the pot.

Notice how the spoon that came with your Instant Pot curves at the very top? That’s because it’s meant to hook right onto the rim of the pot as you’re serving. You’ll need to wait a few minutes if your pot is still scalding hot — but once it cools, you can hang the spoon there as you’re plating up. (Bonus tip: If you have an older Instant Pot model, you might notice a small black tab near the bottom of the pot. That’s a built-in spoon rest, too!)

3. You can open the release valve using the Instant Pot spoon.

Just hook the handle’s hole around the valve, then pull it over to vent. This allows you to start the steam release — without having to fuss with mitts or anything else to protect your hands from the hot vapor. (And in case you’ve misplaced the spoon that came with your Instant Pot, you can push it open with any long-handled utensil like a wooden spoon or a spatula.)
