These Kitchens All Got Impressively Awesome Makeovers, Thanks to the Magic of Self-Adhesive Paper

I can’t tell you how many nights I lie awake in bed, thinking about making over my kitchen counters with peel-and-stick paper. You see, the homeowner before us gave the kitchen a basic update with white Home Depot cabinets and some sort of blue speckled countertop. The cabinets are great — it’s just that the counter isn’t especially stylish. I’d much rather prefer the look of butcher block or marble or quartz. A new countertop isn’t in the cards anytime soon, though, so I dream about some sort of quick-and-easy fix.
I’ve been thinking that self-adhesive paper is my best bet. Unlike, say, those cool painting kits , this can be done temporarily. I can put on a piece, see how we’re liking it, and easily redo it if need be. (This makes it a great option for renters, too.) I can’t stop thinking about how transformative the paper would be, and these kitchens have convinced me that it’s really time to give it the old college try. (Stay tuned for a future post on this!)
I now present you three super-cool kitchens that have all gotten ridiculously impressive makeovers, thanks to self-adhesive paper. They just might inspire you to get covering!
Gold Cabinet Doors
This studio apartment is just 296-square-feet and was a little dark. “I found a roll of gold contact paper at Canal Plastics that I decided to cover the cabinets in to bounce light around the room,” says the smart renter. Not only did her trick to brighten up the space work, but it also turned her little kitchen area in to a glam piece of art.

2. Butcher Block Countertops
This kitchen got made over in about two weeks for a little less than $200. The countertops were in great shape — they just happened to be a swirly yellow Formica. Because the countertops were in such great condition, he was able to just cover them up with a butcher block pattern that he found at Walmart . “My deep dive into YouTube tutorials helped me prepare for the challenge ahead,” he says. “The countertops really changed the look of the kitchen, but then I decided to take it a step further and paint the cabinets a dark green with new black hardware and faucet from Amazon.”

3. Copper Cabinets and Marble Countertops
This rental features self-adhesive paper on the cabinets and on the countertops. It even got a peel-and-stick backsplash. And now I want to cover all the surfaces in my kitchen. Here again, the cabinets got a metallic new look (with this stuff ) and the counters got a marble look (with this stuff ). This cute kitchen makeover stands out as the renter’s proudest DIY moment.
