If You Buy One Thing for Your Spice Cabinet This Month, Let It Be This

I take a lot of pride in being Kitchn’s resident Costco expert. While I know for a fact that I’ll never get my hands on every single thing the store has to offer, I can most certainly try! One of the perks of the job that I particularly enjoy? Nominating our monthly Costco must-buys.

March’s pick has me excited for lots of reasons: It’s an ingredient you can add to recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack time. Kids love it. And … Costco carries it in bulk (of course). So, what is the single best thing you can buy at Costco this month? A 20-ounce canister of Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning.

Buy: Hidden Valley Ranch Homestyle Seasoning, Dip, and Salad Dressing Mix , $11.49 for 20 ounces at Costco.com ($9.99 in warehouse)

The timing of this pick conveniently syncs up with Kitchn’s first ever “Ranch Week,” a super-momentous occasion if you ask me! This stuff also happens to be the kind of seasoning blend that I want to put on everything. Once you start adding ranch seasoning to your recipes, a sprinkle of salt and pepper simply won’t cut it.

This blend is made with buttermilk, onion, garlic, and herbs, which makes it easy to give all of your favorite foods the tangy, herby flavors of classic ranch dressing. Aside from using it to make the classic back-of-the-canister recipe for ranch dressing, you can also sprinkle this over popcorn or baked frozen french fries to take them to the next level. Here’s another idea: Skip the banana bread and bake a savory quick bread like this ranch-flavored bread , instead. My personal favorite way to use this seasoning, though? This slow cooker ranch chicken sandwich recipe.

Perhaps the best part about this seasoning blend is its size. At a standard grocery store, ranch seasoning is typically sold in 1-ounce packets (or mid-sized shaker jars). Of course, Costco has found a way to super-size it. I’ve found that once I added ranch seasoning into my regular repertoire, I shake my way though the 20-ounce jar from Costco in no time.

What would you do with 20 ounces of ranch sesasoning?
